doubt what?

okay some quick points, ADD is totally over diagnosed and can be totally controlled with diet and exorcise. ADHD is almost exactly the same, there are of course differences but you can still control it to some extent.

Having the big ol T syndrome (which is similar and worse in many cases than both of the formentioned, though im lucky and have a very low grade version of it) i find that it isnt entirely true that people with these dissorders have short attention spans, it differs from case to case, me for example, i love doing things that are insanly intricate (like programming in C, heh stupid syntax!!) and yet if i am to try and do something such as sit and watch TV i am entirely unable to stay seated for more than 3 minutes without twitching and or moving.

I blame additives, any artificial colours have me clicking and coughing like im insane.

A threadmill you say? ADD is just an excuse for kids to be hyper and not be disaplined.
Grym
one question. whats T syndrome?
The Lone David
Tourettes Syndrome.
Grym
i feel like i have been told this before...
The Lone David
It's been said before.
Bob
I used to know a guy with tourettes. He was quite amusing.
Grym
tourettes is when you cant control the volume of your voice, right?
Sarcastic37
I thought Tourettes was when you couldn't always control the things you said (Like the Barkeep in "The Boondock Saint's") Though apparently (again according to my mighty psyche textbook) Tourettes involves mostly tick disorders (like oral twitching or odd blinking patterns).

I personally think that ADD and ADHD are fabrications of the Pharmaceutical industry, and yes, I know how that is such an unpopular view because corporations would NEVER make up an illness just to peddle chemicals that we really don't need.

Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn had ADD.
The Lone David
Good Man! And yes, they did.

Also, I love your sig.
Jabba
meh i think ADD and ADHD are just people with badly diagnosed Tourrette syndrome (note to people spelling it, no s on the end of Tourrette, the term "tourrettes" is just a shortening xD) seeing as there are no pills they give me, they just said "btw you have this... if it gets to be a probelm here is a leaflet pointing to a shitty website. Enjoy the rest of your life."

NHS....WORST...IDEA...EVER
Grym
wait isnt tourette syndrome the inability to control the volume of your voice and ADD just lack of attention span?

(shortening it down, i know they're more complicated than that)

btw, i just realized where you got your avatar from. cool!

I think ADD is just the fact that kids are so overloaded with stimulus while they are home (video games, tv, blogs, etc.) that when they are supposed to be paying attention it's too boring for them. Because everything at home is so flashy and colorful, Ms. Snodgrass teaching long division seems pretty boring, so they use thier imagination or stare into space. Add chemicals probably just inhibit high level or "dream state" brain functions so you have to pay attention to what people are saying. Blech. I wouldn't give a kid chemicals that are going to mess with thier brains just so they learn that 2 + 2 = 4. You teach them to pay attention.
The Lone David
Not only that, but the meds can cause some serious long term psychological damage, so your options come down to short term ignorance or long term disability, anorexia, lightheadedness, lack of a decent social life, and alienation from other people.
I'd rather my kid be a dumbass then an unhealthy inmate of Arkham.
Hunter
Actually I think it would be cool if my kid was a super villain fighting batman... then again getting into a fictional city might be tough. Bush life will fix most any additude problem kids have.
The Lone David
I had only said Arkham because its the only asylum a lot of people know of.
And yes, it would fix additude problems, so would life on the coast.

You know what also fixes attitude problems? Manuel labor. Or pain. But most people look down on slapping kids around these days (more's the pity) so really that leave telling Junior or Sally to go chop wood until they decide that it's not okay to spit on thier mother's cooking.
Sarcastic37
I remember back in highschool every other kid was diagnosed ADD or ADHD or something along those lines. And of the kids diagnosed I'd guesstimate that at least 90% saved their pills up till mid-terms and finals then sold them all, or just spent the year crushing them up (then snorting them) instead of actually taking them.
The Lone David
That's why the coast is good, if they're being disrespectful, you have them go help some fisherman unload his catch.
Not only is it manual labor, its smelly manual labor.

Ever work on a farm? You don't eat if you haven't finished your work, there isn't enough sunlight to piss around

Cleaning a barn, shoveling half a foot of cow and horse crap it so bad because the crap on the bottom smells worse than the aired out stuff on the top.
The Lone David
But you're still using a shovel, with a fisherman you have to handle the fish, and if they caught mackerel...
Just plain disgusting.

People now stay up until four in the morning doing...whatever...and then blame the fact that they can't focus on ADD. Maybe it's lack of sleep or the quad latte you just downed? No? Right then.
Hunter
Well what do you think you are going to be standing in all day though? Even with rubber boots you are going to smell for a day and a half if you are hosed down right away.
The Lone David
I know, I used to work on my grandfathers farm, but I still have mackerel scales stuck to my hands from a fishing trip I took 4 weeks ago, and my clothes still smell like fish.
I love the sea, but fish aren't exactly my favorite creatures in the world.

I put my hand up for the role of priest.

Being a deity counts as being a priest, right? I mean, sure, I'm only one of those god-kings (rather than the more ethereal chumps out there) but I can ordain myself as a priest of myself to help with the worlds sexiest exorcism.

Pfft. Sign of lazy parenting and makes it too okay for abusive idiots to savagely and brutally beat their children for no good reason.

If you avoid shouting or making empty threats then there's more than one way to discipline a child. Mental intimidation is more lasting and less likely to unwind or reverse than physical intimidation.
