I swear I think I just might do what cartman did to get closer to the Wii release date, for it.

Discussion about it is open I guess. I'm willing to aruge or agree on anything. To the suggested squad idea, to ingame currency....lets just talk about it...please lol.
Verbose
I don't like it and I don't trust it.

We're all going to get stuck as Guardsmen or something similarly boring. There is no way to keep consistent with Lore and let you have Space Marines bumping shoulders with (or, more accurately, shattering the life out of) grots and have a decent and playable game.

In all likelihood, you get to be an Ork or a Guardsman and fight 'nids.
Durahan
On theory is that you're just going to be human(no sm), tau, eldar, maybe ork. The rest are mobs or npcs.

and the other one, is the squad based gameplay. That means weaker factions get bigger sqauds. 3 Sms=10 IGs.
Verbose
If they going by Lore, even those numbers don't match up. One Space Marine to twenty very good Guard might be a bit closer.
Wiseguy
I just hope this dosent clash with Warhammer online... would be to much to bare for the gaming world. especially with Eye of the north, Wrath of the lich king and Hellgate london coming up.
robonips
Ehh. I'm personally done with MMOs. As much as I want to play AoC when it comes out, my time is better spent in class/at the gym/at work/with friends.
Durahan
verb there is no way its going to be perfect fluff wise. Hell not even the table top game is correct fluff wise....
Wiseguy
It's hard to make games fluffwise, it would be quite unfair.

What heresy be this?

I don't want perfect. I want adequate.

I don't think they're going to give us that, though. The discrepancies between racial abilities, technologies, numbers and organisations are too great while the chances for a class system are too small.

I've been opposed to the concept ever since I first heard it wished for. Warhammer lends itself very well to an MMO. So would Mordheim, really. In fact, that'd probably fit the gametype even better. But 40k. Not so much.
Durahan
Well dude there not going to put everything in... I mean you can't be a choas drawf or a member of the tomb kings in WAR. Hell most of the classes in WAR arn't even figures, and some are bearly mentioned in the fluff, and a few not in the fluff at all. (I wanted to be a vamp count but witch hunter will do XD) Just because you or me can't find a way to put W40k in the mmo prepective and make a great game. Dosen't mean other people can't.
Verbose
It's easier to keep within the spirit of the Warhammer lore, though.

Modern or post-modern weapons do not lend themselves well to MMO's, they lend themselves to FPS'.

As for not having everything in it, of course they don't. I wouldn't even expect it. But to have a 40k game without Space Marines and Orks is wrong. Very, very wrong. And you can't include them both and keep balance unless you completely ignore the Lore.
Durahan
Remember man, Space Marine could just be npcs, or mobs. Its beond me how they can put all the races with out being too Imba. I still have hope for the sqaud system.

Lets see, SWG, AO, Huxley, Riseing Force, and a few others I can think of that have post-modern and modern weapons in them. All great games too. SWG got nailed over by SOE so...that dosen't count lol.
Verbose
I can't say I was enamoured of the experiences to be found therein.

I don't think it can be done well. Perhaps I will be forced to eat my words but I doubt it.
Turain
They might select people to be Space Marines like they did on Star Wars Galaxies: Randomly pick people and then give them access to the SM class. Or make people go on a quest to gain access to that class.

In WoW they're gonna do something like that for the Death Knight class. You'll have to do a quest in WoW and after completing it you can create a new character and choose the Death Knight class. Same thing can work with W40k.

And remember that the pass of Guardsmen can go to many things. Commissar, Psycher, one of the many assassin cults, hell even an Inquisitor (and that can be more fun than a Marine to some).
And Marines are not just fun gutting things. You would probably start as an Initiate or Scout, depending on which Chapter you choose, and then you would have to gain experience to go up the ranks, to a tactical squad or a devastator squad or an assault squad and then ultimately you would pass to the First Company, where only the veterans fight and the firepower there is enough to level a country.

And I could do a really really big post on what you would probably have to do with each race to go up the ranks and gain more powerful equipment, but just go to wikipedia or to lexicanum which is basically a wikipedia focused on W40k.

And maybe, juuuuuuuust maybe the topic name should be changed to W40k MMO game, maybe that will attract more people that like W40k, than the title "I'm in love". Not criticizing, just giving a piece of my mind with no intention of offending.

Btw Verbose, who do you stand for? The Emperor? Chaos? WAAGH? The Greater Good? Death to Life?
Verbose
I'm loyal to the Empire and my Chapter.
Durahan
(I'd edit the name if I could lol)

Yeah, if you mean make another character to be a SM that makes sence. At frist I thought you mean IG can class up to SM which is horrible wrong. Sence SMs are harvested when they're young.

I support a mixture of The Greater Waaagh! Emperor Good. (Tau, IG, and Ork armies) lol.

Warhammer confuses me. :< I always thought it was just men playing dolly dress-up with space dwarves in pretty princess mecha dresses. Yes, I've angered many people with the way I think about it but come on. If you're going to be a nerdy catass and have fun with it, might as well, right?

Okay, so you're telling me there's TWO games where you play dolly dress-up with dwarves. What's the difference?

Also I would give sexual favors to a AoC dev to get a crack at that baby. Conan! Siege warfare where guilds defend castles! Oh god it's like everything I've ever dreamed of and asked for, repeatedly. Well, asked for since the failed Korean Ragnarok Online, at least. Shocking how much better it did pvp than WoW. Okay this is a much longer footnote than I intended. Go ahead and ignore all this and focus on dwarves and the dolly dressing up of plz.

there are two parts of me.

one part believes that the necrons will be involved with this and i will be able to have fun on a tomb world extinguishing other races.

the other part says its going to be another mmo where they have a great idea and concept, kill it slowling, change it into a wow rip off, then never finish it.

either that or the necrons will just be LEFT OUT.

im deeply pessemistic about this release. i truely believe its going to be a new duke nukem forever (which has been inproduction for what? 10 years now?)
Badger
Do we even know this is real? This two-sentence blurb on some random studio's website is the first I've ever heard of it, and I follow Games Workshop somewhat closely.

[Edit] I may have to re-think what I just said. Apparently there's a link to a press release here on the Vigil site ... but I still don't know if I trust that. This seems way too far-fetched to me as an MMO title.
Durahan
One: there is no dwarfs in warhammer40k, theres squats but they're more like space hobbits.
I don't dollie dress up. I dollie paint up. The Space Marines however, just listen to the song "In the navy" and image them all in power armor and tu-tus spinning around and being all g...yes yes I'm just doing this out of spite.

Two: I've debated this on other sites. Playing necron will be boring, hell it might not even be put in. There is no way to class up, no way to talk so no chat bar for you, and pretty much all of your quests will be *KILL* just like a korean grinder o joy. Same with the nids, but their quest will be *TURN INTO BIOMASS RAWR* just like an alien korean grinder.

Three: Duke nukem is nothing more than a pipe dream. You'll never get it, so stop whineing....if you were...

Once again positive thinking damnit!!!

Based on your fairly accurate assessment above, this also excludes Orks and Space Marines. Probably some others I'm not thinking about.

There really only seems to be three army types (off the top of my head) that would fit an MMO framework; Tau, Guards and Eldar. Everybody else is a bit too shooty stabby and not enough promotion/class types.

well my first two points are simple;

one; i LIKE the nercons, and that sort of gameplay would be appealing to me. Especially if i were allowed to play as something other than a necron warrior, also your wrong they can "class up", they would transgress through the crypt worlds or tomb worlds to become crypt warriors for a necron lord... geez tongue.gif

two: its an example, even if they still pertain it WILL be made, i retain my HIGH sceptacism, and also i only recently found out they are keeping this pipe dream going. tongue.gif

and finally i dont whine or winge... i tactfully point out the errors in every situation.

if anything im cynical biggrin.gif
Verbose
Here, here. Who plays an MMO and doesn't want a Korean meat-grinder experience?

That's what I want to know.
Durahan
Just as long as its fun....and I get to gank some beekees I'll be fine with it lol.
Verbose
More like, take a raid to wipe on some.

Yeah, that's right. I said it.
Durahan
Ah you guys would never know what hit'cha. If you get close I'd just kite you lol.
Verbose
And this is why we're the best warriors in the entire universe.
Badger
I've said it before, and I'll say it again.

Ave Imperator.
