The Fork of Truth
Following is a short list of (probably) lesser known games that entertained me greatly:

Chaos League - A fantasy American Football game. Based on Games Workshop's Blood Bowl. Quite challenging if you don't keep alert.
Dungeon Keeper - A game where you rule an underground kingdom filled with all kinds of insidious minions. Fun, but hard if you don't keep your gold supplies up. It really is good to be bad!
Majesty - Very fun fantasy kingdom simulation. Not too hard, but keeps you on your toes. Lots of room for customization.
Evil Genius - A game where you are a Bond-villain style...um...villain. You build an underground lair. The only problem here is money. You do have to keep it up, otherwise you loose. Sadly, this no longer works on my computer.
Populous: the Beginning - A game where you control a primitive tribe and a Shaman with powerful spells (I particularly like the one with bugs). You also have to deal with enemy Shamans. Impressive graphics for its time.

So, do you guys know any more, or do you play any of these?

Thanks for the picks, I will have to check those out. I have always been a big fan of indie games myself. A few of my favorets are:

-DEFCON by Introversion Software, a game that simulates global thermonuclear war. Inspired by WarGames.

-The Escape Velocity series by Ambrosia Software, an great scifi trilogy with an active moding community.

-Anything by Spiderweb software, they make some RPGs that have crap graphics but are still really fun to play.

All these games are shareware, I would provide a link but have been told that I will be sent to prison if I do in my first post so anyone interested will just have to use google.

Evil Genius: you are a 1950-70s evil genius, think of dr. evil.
Spellfoce 1 and 2: Perfect mix of rpg and rst elements.

thats about all I can remember. Let me go rummage through my old computer games.

1. Project IGI: I'm Going In was perhaps one of the most fantastic shooters I played as a kid.
EDIT: I'm talking when I was 15-16, or 4-5 years ago.

2. Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising

3. Sherlock (old 2d puzzle game where the name of the game was deduction) (and some really cool music)
Robomanjr
Knights and Merchants - Hard game to play and takes forever but fun as hell.
Lords of the Realm 2 - Was a fun game growing up.
