I was rereading the comics from the beginning today, and I noticed something.
When Benny tries to explain what the Sword of Truth does/is, Richard keeps interrupting her with, 'it makes you angry' and from then on we never really find out what the Sword does.
I have a theory.

When Richard says it makes you angry, Benny says it's more complicated than that. And I have an idea on what the Sword really does.
Maybe what it does is make you tell the worst possible truth about someone, like... Say someone's best friend held the sword, and started spouting off things about their best friend that were true, but also extremely mean. Like it makes you mad enough to just start spouting off things about the people around you. Like... If Benny got ahold of the sword and met up with Cale, she'd say something like 'You always get in the way, your a naive fool' or something like that.
Something like that would certainly be dangerous to an enemy, if you yelled out the things that would distract and anger them into a mistake, I bet it would certainly turn a fight in your favor.
What do you guys think? Any other theories?

That was a therory I posted before, but you explained it better then I did. So, Good job. I agree.

I think if you touch someone with the sword. They tell the truth.

Or it releases your true potential and makes you berserk.
But if the sword of truth actually show its wielder the ugly truth of things, it would be a funny weapon.

Honestly I'm thinking that its very similar to what the sword of truth is in Terry Goodkinds "The Sword of Truth" series.
Here is a link to wikipedia that explains the
Sword of Truth in his series.
If you read that description, and combine it with Richards interuption it makes a lot of sense. This is probably the inspiration for the sword of truth in the comic, and my guess is it will have very similar abilities.
The only other explanation I would have is that it would be very similar to the sword of shanara from Terry Brooks book sharing the name. In that whoever is forced to touch the sword must fast the truth of themself...if they are unable to face the truth then they are killed.

Seeing the horrifying, ugly side of the wielder while seeing the good side of the enemy??
I think Cale would be perfect for the Sword of Truth if it is, indeed, the same as what Wiki is saying.

Sohmer himself said that the sword is a spoof of Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth, so I think it's safe to assume that this is so :-p

Perhaps, perhaps not...remember that Cale has a few issues when it comes to dealing with the fact that his race is evil. He may be perfect in that he would never kill anyone cause he would never see anyone as an enemy...but I don't think he could come to grips with the horrifyingly ugly side of himself...something tells me he needs more points in his delusion skill before he can accept anything bad about himself or his race.

Come to think of it, when wielding the Sword of Truth, I don't think you'll need to fight the pain with anger. If you see the goodness in the one you're about to strike down, just remind yourself that the same person is also an ass for whatever reason you may want to kill him. No anger necessary

"Oh noes!! He donated to the orphanage once!!... Well, then again, he DID take the last muffin, oh well"
*splat*
Yeah, the artifact would be useless to Richard since he doesn't need anger to kill. The more innocent his victims are.... well, it's the same as if his victims are a horde of serial killers

sword of truth seems like a lightsaber cept this one hurts you when you kill someone. Get a lightsaber. Much better.

Ligthsabers can only be controlled by those wielding the force. And sword of truth rules. (i know what it basically does in my head). Kills people who you consider evil and leave those you dont unharmed. Wich means dont let it get into Richards hands hence i dont know if he thinks in those terms.

The sword is as good as any other ordinary sword in Richard's hands since Richard doesn't care if his victims are "good". It'd only make him happier with his kill.

No you do not

The fork part has 3-4 pointy areas and a "Handle"
A sword is very sharp, long, and has a wooden/metal hilt.
So put 4/3 sword points together and attach that to a long handle made of wood and walla.
A Trident!

a swork would be like a normal sword, but with three blades. The swork of truth!
