Time to start another debate thread, this one: Which is better? New York Pizza with the thin crust, or Chicago style, with the full-bodied pan crust and loads of toppings.
I love Chicago style, the crust is amazing, and all the toppings just make it so delicious. New York style is all right for a snack maybe, but its more like a cracker with cheese on it.

Spyder- New York style, FTW! I like that I get just enough crust. Deep dish ruins it for me. I'll end up eating the toppings and leaving the crust. Also, I prefer a crisp crust, with a little crunch. Deep dish is too chewy.

Spyder- Best crust=brick oven style. Mmmm, crucnhy. ::shrug:: Pizza is good regardless. Though I too don't like too much cheese. Just enough to bind together the toppings is perfect!

You serious? I can't get enought cheese on my pizza, I like it dripping over the sides of the crust and onto the plate. The only problem with Chicago style is it takes a while to cook, but its so totally worth it.
I'd love to stay and argue more but I'm off to Giordano's, the best Chicago style restaurant evar!

Spyder- For thick crust lovers: You don't find the crust detracts from the overall flavor? No antagonism, just curiousity. I also prefer a nice spicy sauce and it seems like the thicker the crust the blander it tastes to me.

Americans have bad pizza. This is objective fact. You overpay and it's just not worth the time or effort.

Spyder- You mean there is another kind?

In my country, there are a handful. It depends on where you actually buy it from - different 'restaurants' use different recipes for their crust. There's pan, deep pan, thin & crispy and cheese crusts off the top of my head.

Spyder- Ick, Ickier, good, Ickiest in that order. I've also heard of hand-tossed which is between pan and thin. It is pretty good too.

I tend to eat whatever it comes on. To me, pizza is not really a delicacy. It is a food you consume in large quantities because you are bored and hungry.

I have recently seen one crust with three toppings in it and what was being called edge-crust, where topping extends over to the very brink and effectively eliminating crust.

Good God. If anyone has ever been to certain areas in Jersey, they'd know that this wasn't even a debate. I have family in Chicago as well, and imo there's no pizza that can even compare to a very
good New York styled pizza. As much as I utterly despise everything about New York - especially the Yankees - you can't beat their pizza.

I've had "good" New York style, and I gotta tell you, Chicago's better.

I justified my statement with "imo," since no one can really win this argument, but I tried pizza from the 2 places that were supposed to be Chicago's best, and I wasn't impressed at all.

It really is a matter of opinion and how you feel at the time. If I just want something to eat on the run then yeah, New York is great. But, I usually like to sit down and eat and at that Chicago style excells.
And yeah, New York style is really good, especially Totonno's but people around here defend their pizza to the death.

This, sir, borders on a challenge. We don't take sanely to those around here.
