Just trying to come up with ideas. Help me.
- The character goes to a Chinese restaurant for what ever reason. The meal's nice and normal, better than average food, good wait-staff, and so forth. When they bring the ticket, they also bring a tray of fortune cookies. Naturally, everyone breaks open their cookies, ready to read their fortunes.
Only to discover a big, fat, still-living maggot squirming in the center of their cookie.
Any shouts of disgust bring the wait-staff running. But when the characters show what they've discovered, the maggots are gone. Instead, each fortune cookie contains a perfectly-ordinary fortune. Alternatively, the characters open their fortune cookies to find a fortune that reads "I WILL KILL YOU," (or something similarly threatening) printed on a slip that's spattered with blood.
Some ideas for these wicked fortunes:
"HE IS COMING"
"TELL ME, HAVE YOU SEEN THE YELLOW SIGN?"
"CTHULHU FHTAGN"
"IT IS A FEARFUL THING TO FALL INTO THE HANDS OF A LIVING GOD"
"YOU DID IT"
"I KILLED HER"
"YOU DIE TONIGHT"
"WEEP. THE END IS NEAR"
"THE BLOOD IS THE LIFE"
Or any number of other one-liners. Also single words in Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese) would work. Imagine finding a fortune with a single kanji on it... and then finding out that it's the word for 'death'.
-From the old episode of Twilight Zone;
It is 60`s event or so (can be set anytime after WWII);
Some NAVY cruiser, destroyer, or any larger military ship, during military maneuvers discovers some strange noise on the sonar (sorry for my bad English) - it appears that it is SOS Morse call. Source is, strangely, an old submarine which has sunk during **** (in this episode it was WWII). It has been in those shallow waters for more than a decade, and there is no rational chance for survival. Anyway, captain/crew/admiral etc., decides to activate rescue mission. Specialists are sent to unhatch the old sub, and see for survivors. During that event, one member of this crew, some 50 years old navigator, falls into delirious state. When diving rescue crew succeeds in opening broken hatch of the sub, member of ship crew, which was delirious by then, will become insane and jump overboard into the ocean/sea. Nobody will find his body. Some half hour later, divers enter the sub, and they find everything decaying, and an old skeleton with a hammer in its hands. It would seem like that skeleton was trying send SOS message. Most freakish thing is, that the plates around skeleton’s neck will have name of the officially only survived crew member. It is the man which has drowned over the deck.
Any other ideas?

*raises hand* question! whats this about? Are you starting a forum story, like #'s 1-4 (or was it five?) or are you writing your own story and asking suggestions for it? I seek enlightenment.

I always liked the old tales of Dracula and vampires. My interpretation of vampires is something so inhumanly evil that has a 90% human looking body. The way I think of Dracula is that he is composed of three different parts that direct him: His hunger, his intelligence, and his pride. And maybe his pure evilness. Think of it this way.
A forest, its night time but the flora is illuminated by a full moon. A man is walking along a path through the forst, he steps on dried leaves and twigs as he stomps his way along. He shivers as a chill wind blows around him and steals his warmth. The man continues along the path, soon the man comes to a bend in the trail and stops to rest.
"I'm sure the village is around here some where," he talks to comfort himself on this cold night.
A few minutes pass, a sigh, he gets up to continue his trek. A glint, a flash of light among the shrubbery catches his eye. He lumbers toward the grass and trees to find a small dagger. Next to the dagger is a gloved hand, attached to the hand is a corpse. Too late does this man realize that he has made a grave mistake. He twists his head around, looking every which way, jumping at every sound. He heres the howl of a wolf. the rythmic beating of wings and he runs faster than he ever had.
Hours pass, it is still dark out, but this man has survived longer than he feared he would and it brings confidence. His running slows to a jog, a skipping jump and he walks off the beating of his heart. He leans against a tree, his right hand holding his side as he takes deep breaths. His own loud guffaws would have covered all the other sounds in the forest, if there had been any. Everything is deathly silent, the owl has dissappeared, deers have become statues, the bear hides in it's cave, and the wolf watches.
A tall, cloaked, man materializes in the shadow of a tree. As this new comer steps out of the darkness his face is lit by the light of the full moon. The face is as pale as the moon and just as solemn, but there is a glint in those eyes that are a mere hint of a passion that would dwarf the sun. The pale man is behind the traveler and he steps closer, the man's mouth begins to stretch with every silent step. From inside his coat he brandishes a long iron lance. He is right behind the traveler, his face is split by a maniacal grin. A muffled grunt signals his thrust.
The traveler realizes too late how much danger he was really in.
Wow, glad I got that off my chest. If anyone actually reads that I'm sorry for any typos. Hope that helped Ballscratch.

But film? Some kind of Blair Witch-esque filming?
Ballscratch
Aug 12 2007, 02:53 PM
Actually, I was aiming for a more 'student-film'esque thing, an actual short film with a horrow motif. So far all I have is twisted ideas, but no singular story line. Things like walking down a dark road and seeing a bunny rabbit pop out of a rabbit hole and watch you for a moment. Then when you turn away, a pale, naked, human arm would shoot out of the hole, grab the rabbit and drag it back.

That would be pretty damn cool. The idea of someone being watched in their own houses can be freaky, as long as you showed the audience something to be afraid of, like a face or a shadow. There's some work being down in a coupld different rooms in my house. In one there's a whole in the wall in the upper corner and sometimes I think of glancing at it and seeing an eyeball or something.

Spyder- For me the scariest stuff is what should be safe being twisted in to what you should be afraid of. Like, I dunno...Poisonous butterflies... Maybe not the best example, but still. When things you expect to be safe turn out to be the true threat it can be pretty intense. Though psychological thrillers are my favorites.

Thrillers can be pretty cool. I don't watch a ton of horror movies, most are predictable and end up leaving a bad taste in my mouth. Hollywood only seems capable of spitting out movies that follow the same pattern.
Good films really surprise the viewer, there is no "don't go through that door! He's right behind you!" bull. I could point to M. Night Shamalama (or whatever is name is) for The Village, it did wag the dog, but finding out the truth was lame.
A monster flick should have a monster. But thats just me. I need resolution.

Wellcome back, Scratchy! It was boredom with out you. TLD is the undisputed king of the forums now, but I'm trying to assassinate him.
Seriously though, I think I'll have to steal some of the ideas that are popping up on this page. Heres one of my own, sort of a 40K fanfic - a bunch of space marines/imperial guard (or whatever) go back in time to modern day. Creepy, no?

When it comes down to potential spook value, I'd go with underwater settings. Space is just overdone. Everyone knows about the Spooky Alien plot line. Besides, everyone knows pretty much whats in space, Nothing at all. There are still deep trenches in the ocean we haven't mapped yet. And finally, sunken ships just got that eerie feel to 'em.

Spyder- You know, Grubs, that this is the same as someone saying I've walked the shoreline and I didn't see anything so the oceans must be empty. Whether or not there is more to the universe isn't something anyone can say with confidence. We just haven't explored it yet. I have nothing against oceanography, I love the ocean. However, exploring the oceans won't solve a glaring problem for humanity. A problem I see as this: Space is vast and there is a lot of stuff hurtling around in it. In so far as we know, humanity has but one little home in it. Chances are something in the universe will at some time intersect courses with Earth. No more human race. Investing in space travel, exploration, and colonies means that while all life on Earth may die, humanity will continue. I find this a better use of my money than funding find giant squids or mapping ocean terrain. It is a hell of lot better than most uses of my money. Just my thought on the matter.

Except for one pretty notable difference: Space is a vacuum. Hence, it is empty.
Secondly, have you forgotten that a giant squid could conceivably be trained for live-action tentacle porn? I think you may have.

Try living in a house on your own. After you lock all the doors/windows to go to sleep, you go to your bedroom and close the door.
Just as you set down to sleep, something knocks, politely, on your bedroom door. Despite the fact that you locked the house and know it to be empty.
See the horror?
