I am a Sci-Fi Freak.. and will always love all the Star Wars and Star Trek and LOTR and many many more.

I belive that Star Wars Episodes 4,5,6 were better movies. They are just more fun, more adventure. A better ride (You had the feeling, as Indy might say, "I'm making this up as I go along.")

My big problem with Eps. 1,2,3 is that they had to do so much explaining just to mactch up with Episode 4, It bogged down the story over and over. Obviously it was needed information, but it slowed things down too much.

But I enjoyed how many different plot points from 1,2,3 matched up with event/people in 4,5,6. Certain things were explained or we go to see a similar situation. We know how Vader knows Boba Fett in Empire Strikes Back, We know why Leia mentions that Luke is "a little short for a Storm Trooper." We know how Boba Fett knew to hide in the garbage from the Star Destroyer to follow the Melinium Falcon to Cloud City.

I often go back and watch 1,2,3. I like to see all the bad choices that the hero Anakin makes that lead to his demise. I enjoy the sence of Destiny that occurs because we, the audience, know that Anakin must become Darth Vader.
And I like to see Paplpatine in such complete control of the Senate. Every single event, for 3 whole movies, happens the way he wants it to! Any place that you might argue that (say, losing Count Dukoo, or Darth Maul, The Clones coming to the Rescue of the Jedi on Geonosis) he always had a backup plan that worked out in his favor.

and... I maintain that no Jedi was "betrayed" by a clone trooper. All they ever did, was follow their orders. You might ask your self why any self-respecting republic would just pick up a loaded army and fire it.

I actually really enjoyed one two and three. As comic book guy would say, "Oh Jar Jar, Everybody hates you but me." Then again, I probably saw them before I did four five and six (little kiddunz) so, meh.

The best of the Star Wars movies was "The Empire Strikes Back" but when Lucas did Episodes 1,2, and 3 all he did was run the entire thing into the ground. The contradictions between the first tilogy and the second have been endlessly commented on, he turned Obi Wan Kenobi into a retarded jackass for the second trilogy...I now hold nothing but contempt for Lucas, as he clearly holds nothing but contempt for his audience.

I liked episode 1 most. It may be because it was the first one i saw and it made me a Star Wars fan. Didn't like episodes 2 or 3 that much. But like Traith said (if I understood it right), episodes 1-3 explain the backstory of the original trilogi. And it's nice to notice the connections.
It's good that Lucas decided on not making episode 7, it would have been a BIG mistake.

Starwars is okay, it isn't my favorite scifi but it gets the job done for wasting away an afternoon.

First of all, thank you for the thoughtful thread and good first post Traith. I have to agree that 4, 5, and 6 were the best. Also, HAN SHOT FIRST! They had the better acting and a it was an overall fun experience. 6 was my favorite because you get to see an Ewok die. If they had killed Jar-Jar, whichever movie that happened in would be my favorite. However, 1, 2, and 3 did have amazing special effects. You have to admit, watching Yoda split wigs and take names was awesome. The acting was stiff and wooden in both halves of the saga, but moreso in 1, 2, and 3. Personally, I kind of liked the complex and confusing plot. It's a nerd thing. We like complicated stuff that puny average minds can't handle. It was just so cool to see it all explained, see who the jedi were, learn about Vader's past, find out how the Emporer took control of the Galaxy. It was so cool to see everything fit together like a puzzle. Much hatred for the mushy love crap in the newer 3. And you're right, the clones weren't evil. They were sorta programmed to obey orders from birth. If anybody has any questions about the details of Star Wars, I know pretty much every stupid fact about it.

Play Star Wars : Battlefront. Not the 2, the first one. Te first droid mission you have to play is to slaughter Gungans... much fun.

WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME THIS UNTIL NOW!!!!
*grabs copy of battlefront*
*maniacle laugh* gungans, die!!!!

Im of the opinion that the first movies (as in 4,5 & 6) were better acted with good to fairly good graphics, which were used to full effect, and that the later ones (1,2 & 3 (*cries* why george WHY!)) had horrible acting and brilliant, but poorly used, graphics. I hate the fact that he changed the first load of films, and i hate the fact that he MADE the last films even more.

I thought the new films were going to be good, then on the opening night of the first film(as in ep 1) i saw a picture of jar jar...

...everything went down from there...

I loved the star wars movies, more so ep 4-5-6 because i have watched them a bunch more times than the new ones. Why is Jar-Jar so hated huh.gif i personally thought he was great, one of my favourite characters, though my top 2 are Chewbacca and of course Yoda. 1-2 and 3 were a little bit of a let down but i think George Lucas redeemed himself with the Yoda fight scenes. I went and watched the midnight screening here in my little backwater state of Tasmania in Australia and when Yoda drew his lightsaber the whole crowd errupted in cheers it was magnificent.

Some talk has come up about how to watch the series.

I feel they should be watched in the order they were originally made. Starting with STAR WARS. Then Empire, and Return of the Jedi. Then going to Phantom Menace, Clones, and Revenge of the Sith.

Of course that is how I grew up with them, and I how first saw them.

I think knowlege of the original three (Eps. 4,5,6) informs a lot of knowlege that is needed to watch 1,2,3. Even though this is out of chronological order. If I did not know who Darth Vader was, why would I ever care about some little kid on Tatoinne. I can imagine watching the Revenge of the Sith (without having seen 4,5,6) and saying, "What a rotten way to end a movie! How could they do that to the hero!"

Knowing what will happen "in the future" of 4,5,6 is the reason to have 1, 2,3 at all.

Spyder- It seems strange to have read your post Traith as I feel exactly the opposite. I think perhaps those of us who are old enough to have seen 4, 5, and 6 find the 1, 2, and 3 so passe BECAUSE we saw the former first. I don't hate the 1, 2, and 3, but of course I knew how the story would end so the impact is lessoned in my eyes. I think it is better to allow the younger gen to see the films in their chronological order and make up their minds from there.
A couple of points on this.
My husband has argued that 1, 2, and 3 remove the dramatic tension of Luke's discovery about Vader being his dad, while I contend it removes none of the drama for the character and the viewer could still feel his pain though we knew long ago the truth of the situation.
As to the Jar Jar haters, it is true he gets on my nerves, but really so did the Ewoks...not trying to start any wars here but it remains true. Hell, even his own race hated him. However he did bring diversity and humor to a mostly human filled and serious tale. He wasn't just so much background as are most of the races of Star Wars tend to be.

Lastly to those who feel Obi Wan was portrayed badly, again, I find that the young man to be extremely believable considering the old man portrayed in 4, 5, and 6.

"Oh Jar Jar, Everybody hates you but me."

I like jar-jar.

and also, There were some clones who disobeyed the orders. (I read books from the expanded universe, I got this from a book that takes place immediately after episode 3.)

and anyone who loves starwars should have seen the legacy of the force of the history channel. This year is the 30th anniversary of the star wars trilogy (more specifically a new hope)

ewoks are cool two. 3 things I really want to see: A gungan jedi. An ewok jedi. And a hutt jedi. Strange? who's strange?

and for the tension of vader being his dad, that just changes it from situational irony to dramatic irony.

When I grow up Im going to show my kids the star wars trilogy.
