Went and saw trasformers this eve.
Thought it was just right for a summer movie, cuase it was fun to watch, but if you haven't, (or don't want to) you will never feel like you missed anything.
Favorite Cartoon from kid-hood of course.
Anybody else have any thoughts?

The movie looks wicked awesome, primarily due to amazing special effects. Trailers looked promising. The basic plot which the cartoon, comic books, toys and now movie were marketed off of is stupid. That doesn't totally ruin a movie if there are lots of explosions I suppose. But it would be nice to have an interesting sci-fi plot with an action packed script. In my eyes, a good sci-fi plot has to be science fiction. It has to be physically possible. This is just stupid. Who built the transformers? Why would they have the materials to make Earth-like weapons if they're an advanced group of alien robots? Why do they bother blending in with standard Earth vehicles when they just blow their cover by fighting all over the place? Alternatively, since they're pretty much unstoppable juggernauts, why bother cloaking at all? Why bother with Earth weapons when in robot form and not trying to keep up the "regular ordinary bitchin semi with hot rod flames" facade? They could use lasers and photon cannons and stuff like that. And why do the deceptecons get all the cool vehicles? The list just keeps going. Still, the constant explosions make it a must-see in my book. Bob out!

I actually went to the movie thinking I'd be fairly disappointed, mostly because I wasn't that keen on seeing it at first, but after I actually saw it I was rather impressed. Not a bad movie.

To bob vader: How would you know what alien weapons look and work like? For all we know, they might very well look and work exactly like earths weapons. The only thing that makes us think of "lasers and photon cannons and stuff like that" is sci-fi movies. I'm thinking that when we finally do find aliens, that all the star wars and star trek junkies are gonna be a bit dissapointed

(I haven't seen it yet, but I'm looking forward to seeing it just for the special effects.)

Movie was pretty darn good, I thought. It held enough of the old fan boy draw while not leaving anyone new to transformers out in the cold. It had some great funny lines, some serious all out action, amazing cars (drool over the new camaro), and all out it was exactly what I want from an action movie. Explosions, laughs, hot girl, car chases, great effects. Go Micheal Bay!

The movie had the same problems Alien vs Predator had in that the fight scenes were too damn close, if they had backed the camera up just a little bit I would have enjoyed the movie a lot more than I did.
Not that I didn't enjoy the movie, it was still pretty good.

True, the actions sequences were cool. I was sitting near the middle of the thetre and still had issues trying to comprehend the whole thing.
The only thing that bugged me is that Optimus Prime said "My bad". C'mon this is the O.P... he's above cheap pop-culture phrases!

I went to see it the other night with my GF and some school friends. The FX were amazing, but mostly I felt like I was watching 1 1/2 hours of good movie mixed with 1 hour of crappy movie. The good parts being the action sequences. The worst part was when the Autobots knock out the power to the kid's house, his parents are running around in the dark with a flashlight...and outside we see the shiny robots illuminated by THE PORCH LIGHTS. Sloppy film making...very sloppy.
I loved how Barricade changed the police force motto, however...that was a great touch.

To Jaezelle,
How do you know that alien races AREN'T more advanced than us? Who's to say they DON'T use lasers and other fancy weapons that make big sploshens? I think most of the world would back me up when I say: if there are other intelligent life forms out there, they are probably far more advanced than us. Ask anyone who doesn't know and hate me and would answer in your favor just to spite me. Also, don't be knocking the Star Wars.

O.o ok cool.
I enjoyed the movie. Was happy that it wasnt crap pretty much, was scared that my childhood was going to be rapped as I was sitting there, but it was a good movie in the end. The action was good except that they could have drawn back on them a little. Had everything that a good movie should have, not a great movie, but a reasonable one.

Jaezelle, Bob, the movie explains the technological similarities between the alien machinery and our own.
(highlight for spoiler)
Our technology was reverse-engineered based on the discovery of a frozen Megatron found in the Arctic Circle by the main human character's ancestor. What I'm guessing the whole reverse engineering bit was about is that we slowly learned how Megatron worked and gradually understood it more over time. Or, perhaps, it was easy to understand the possibilities and that progress was slowed for the sake of saving face to the public.

I can't really talk because I haven't seen it yet. I'd sooner watch Star Wars again however. Can't get enough of that Star Wars! I warn the next person to be post to be careful about not knocking Star Wars...

Star Wars 4,5 and 6 were good...
Only 4,5, and 6.
Bob Vader
Jul 12 2007, 02:19 AM
That's debatable. 4, 5, and 6 had better plots and slightly better acting. The acting in all of them was kind of lousy sadly. They picked all the no-name actors. The special effects in 1,2, and 3 were awesome. Much better than the original trilogy. The plots and dialogue were kinda bleh. 3 was the best. Very dark, killed part of my soul, Jar-Jar shut up (huzzah!). The plot was brilliant. The SE were amazing. Yoda and Sidious kicked bootay. However, the dialogue, mushy love crap, and acting sucked.

3 killed part of my soul too, until I walked out of the theatre anyway.

You have no idea how much self restraint I'm using to stop myself from viciously flaming you for telling me that you walked out of the theatre mid-movie in Star Wars Episode III.

Okay ladies and gentlemen. The topic was Transformers, not the likes/dislikes/whatever about Star Wars. I'd really like to see this stay on topic otherwise I can see it being transformed into something else.
I've had confirmation that the next installment of Transformers is to be released in 2009.
I thought the movie was well done and enjoyable. It made me 5 all over again.

when i got there i expected to see robots beating each other up
what i got was a veeeeeeeeerrry long stall time with few fights in-between(which i understood and saw better than AVP)
then a good little battle. they need more fighting. even though the end battle was good enough.
and i liked it when bumblebee smashed the beetle

Spyder- Vader, there is a reason the Transformers resembled earth vehicles and tech. This reason is that they were rebuilt on our specs. Thought the complete story is too long to repeat here, so far as I remember, the Transformers crash-landed on Earth before we humans we the dominant life and remained dormant until somehow, I forget just how at the moment, the computers rebuilt and rectivated them. Eventually sometime after the return to Cybertron, they do undergo a makeover with their own tech level.

But yeah, I found the ending a bit strange. They were making out of top of Bumblebee. It's like having sex on top of your best friend. Isn't this wrong?!

Jul 20 2007, 08:45 PM
Oh, I've heard of a Volkswagon bug... they're all over Southern California since the climate preserves cars so well.
I have to agree with the Stranger... I was thinking the same thing. And wouldn't anyone notice that there were two people on the hill and three vehicles? I'd think that was suspicious. I think the idea is that the guy gets the girl (and an awesome car) and they live happily ever after (at least until the next installment).
That mystery trailer still bugs the crap outta me though.
