Rate It?

Obviously a lot of people like this comic so this idea stirred in my head while I passed through youtube (I do it a lot. so this might be just a bad idea)

So for every comic posted underneath it be a set of 5 stars,
And members can simply click/rate that days comic?
Why? I don’t know.. Just saying be interesting to know which one gets a high 5 wink.gif

Fail.

I agree, adding new things to the site just for that doesn't seem worth it.

We'll ignore one-word reply douchebag up there.

He might be right, but hey, who really gives a damn.

I'm a bit worried you go the idea from Youtube - which has many mixed artists, so some ratings and kudos make them feel ++, while here it's always just Lar and Sohmer.
Also, it's Youtube - if I wanted to watch people lip-synching badly, I'd get on a bus full of schoolgirls with MP3 players.

There *are*, I believe, somewhere, other webcomics that have a Love it/Hate it -o- meter, but those tend to be of the humurous comics that discuss news and current affairs, and the artist needs to know if his latest race joke was a bit off colour (heheheh)

Anyway, I fully support a rating option if it will help people get things out of their system without making a new thread for every individual damn one-liner they think is funny, or every time someone has a costume change, or uses their left hand, or stands in a room with oddly coloured walls - you get the idea.

Epic fail.

Now you can go ahead and call me the TWO word douchebag.

But no, seriously, this is a terrible idea of epic proportions. You and "the readers" aren't the people making the comic funny or making it look good, you just enjoy the end product. The readers really shouldn't have a say in future comics. I mean, look at how many people didn't get any of the easy (and awesome) "subtle" jokes, like the name of Richard's imp. Do you REALLY want these people putting ratings and trying to influence future comics?

I'm not sure a line of one-to-five gold stars actually has the power to be an epic idea of any sort.

I'll admit I've never used the rating system for songs/movies in Windows Media Player.

The readers giving X/5 Thumbs up to any given comic strip is in no way allowing them an opinion or sway over future comics - and they already go out of their way to have opinions on future comics in this here forum, which I don't see you asking to be closed down.

I'm not saying it's a great idea - it may not be worth the coding it takes to implement it, but it is hardly as horrible as you're suggesting - and it might make the artist/writer feel fuzzy inside to get big approval rates in gold star form from the gormless twits here who have little fangasms every time richard raises a sardonic eyebrow.

Note - You're probably aware the artists rarely ever post in these here forums; they show some wisdom - and in their great wisdom, they probably pay about as much attention to your posts as they do mine or the thread-starter of this here discussion, so don't raise your blood pressure worrying about it, if any changes happen to the site, it'll be because someone cleverer and with more interest in this project than either of us wants them.

Truely an epic fail of monumental proportions that continues to baffle the mind long after the topic is exited. (sorry mate, I don't mean it, but I had to beat the other "fail" comments)

Eh, the idea does rate pretty low... There's the problem of the actual comic repeating what the readers "like". Then there's also really no reason for each comic page to be rated against the ones before it.... Artist talent will improve over time, story depth will improve... and each punchline will always be surpassed by the ones after it. Pretty much, as each page came out, it would become the new "5-star". Which brings me back to my main thing... there's no reason for a rating system. *shrugs*

.....
Did I spell "monumental" correctly? "Truely" also looks funny up there. *sigh* oh well...
(edited to poke at the fail comment)

I just don't think a rating system is necessary. If Lar and Sohmer want to know what we think, all they have to do is read the forums. And since everybody on the forums loves the comic, well, I'm hoping it gives them at least a little encouragement to keep up the good work. smile.gif

Ppl who don't like the comic, i would think wouldn't bother even being on these forums but at least the rest of us that are here, it be interesting to see which comics get the highest ratings by people we know that like the comic.
(i'm not trying to get a rating system on here, was just thinking out loud)
Anyways, For those who somewhat supported the idea, ty, the otherz that flamez me, eh ur entitled to your opinion as am i biggrin.gif

P.S. Great points where brought up on both sides of this agrue-ment.
And just so there is no confusion, Yes i am a fan Of this comic ;D

I've read one comic with a 'rate today's comic out of 5 stars' doovy-whacker, and it just seemed pointless. People reading the comic because they like it tend to just want to read the next one quickly, not bother with rating. Plus people who like the comic will rate every one 5, and people who dislike it will rate every one 0 or 1. Only really analytical people will bother rating each comic on its own merit, and even then those people are more likely to comment on the forums than use some 5-level system that doesn't allow you to actually state problems that could be fixed.

PS -- The comic was an FMA spinoff, not satirical or even hugely amusing. So there. I think the person just wanted to be appreciated. ;P
