Um, calling Richard "Dick" was what got Cale fwoomed in the first place. Which is how they met Benny.
I'm just cracking up because Cale finally developed a sense of humor! Ha!

Read page three of the lfg comic. You'll see there that Cale calls Richard a dick.
"You were supposed to pay more attention to everything after that part."
"Sure thing, Dick."
"H-uh, That's pretty funny."
FWOOM!
Yah, exactly like that.

Dick is short for Richard (like how Bob is short for Robert and Alex is short for Alexander). Richard we know hates being called Dick, and Cale is annoying him by making a pun on it.

First of all, not everyone is anglophone so it is possible that some people might not get the subtelties of the "popular" english. I should know, I'm francophone and originally learned propper international english. I had to get used to the commonly used english and ask some questions that you might consider stupid.
Secondly, the Richard = Dick thing might be regional thing. Might be limited to US and Brits and not known by others so "as-a-matter-of-fact" thing. So stay good kay?
Good.

Me too, While we all sit here laughing at these poor saps who don't know that Richard = Dick, no one seems to have commented about the other part of the joke, you know, the actual joke, beyond the fact that "Dick" and "Stick" ryhmes.
A Dick on a Stick is one of those novelty things, much like Soap on a Rope, or Penis Straws.

Humorous for sure, but it seems rather out of character for Cale to say such a thing, point emphasised there by the fact they are in battle.
Was a rather droll joke, but in all, nice change from the sarcastic humour that stands so dominant in the comic.
For the whole debate on if "Richard being longhand for Dick" is a worldwide knowledge, it is rather cocky and presumptuous to assume that everyone is educated in the same way as oneself. Remember that.

I'm German, and even
I got the joke... blame it on reading a lot of American and British English literature and watching their movies and TV. (I just didn't find the joke very funny in itself, but hey that's me. Pehaps it just goes to show that Cale sucks at attempts of humour.). *shrug*
I will never for the life of me understand why Dick is short for Richard but also exists separately as a name, too, and why some American men are called "Dick", considering that in American slang a dick is.... a wang. Seriously, so many actors and politicians carry that name, what were their parents thinking?

Perhaps they were all born before the name acquired its slang meaning?

*brain explodes*

Well, in the NL, Dick, or sometimes Dick, is also short for Richard. So me, I thought this was quite commonly known. Just like Rick, Rik and the likes.
Man's stupidity and links to sex? Well, I happen to like sex a lot, and don't nescessarily consider myself stupid as a result, thank you very much.

Just for that other irrelevent side debate - There is nothing wrong with sex.
There is nothing wrong with taken up arms and slaying entire nations for the sole purpose of bedding their women. Sex is a noble thing my chums, and it's what men do best. To sneer at sex is to sneer at humanity (also Koalas. Did you know that the Koala, the cutest animal in Australia, and arguably, the world, does not have a mating ritual? The Male just overpowers and rapes the female whenever he damn well feels like it)
For those who giggle at men named "Dick" - I give you

"Dick Pound", former VP of the IOC.
I wonder if they'll make a
Spotted Dick joke at some point, or is that a little too pommy?

I think Dick as a standalone name is more American...I'm English and have never met a person named Dick. Possibly because the parents are aware of the other meanings of the word, hee. Then again, Americans also name their children Randy. rotfl.
I think Richard becoming Dick is a bit more archaic now anyway. Haven't heard many people shorten Richard to it nowadays. Plently of Robert/Bobs though.

I think it's more of the fact that Cale is getting used to Richard and vice versa than anything. They actually seem to be more like friends now. Cale doesn't rag on Richard for doing evil things as much and Richard seems much more amicable to Cale in general. It's hard to explain and in my mind I have this big thesis on this, but alas I have a Kara raid to attend to so for now that's all I can post.

I dunno, I get the Richard = Dick thing now, but when I first read it I just thought Cale was saying dick as in @$$hole. It seemed out of character, and I guess it was probably just the play on names, but I still thought it was funny.
Quick side note... I was re-reading the comics to find where the imp was mentioned (and yes, it really is little bitch backwards, I hadn't noticed that before, thanks) and ended up just re-reading them all.... I got to the dick on a stick page and out of an empty hope clicked next anyway, even though I had checked for the newest one just 20 minutes before.... ha ha ha and there was the next page!

Names that also refer to penis include "Peter" as slang, "Dick" an asian name would be "Wang" The list goes on. It dates back to the time where one's manhood when he didn't have riches would link back to the size of well...you know
On the note of a man's genitilia, as Richard is undead, Sorry ladies (my father is a mortitan IE he embalms the dead and makes them presentable for presentation) his main utility shrinks and the lower sockets expand from rigormortis. As he does stand up though I can't be certain... (trying to keep this as PG as possible) Given that I doubt Richard has a beating heart, he would have no ability to concieve children (unless magically conceptualized XD look out benny!) ...maybe he takes being called "Dick" not as an insult to shorten his name but because of a lack of ....performance? That COULD explain a lot of his behavior being pent up like that he has to exurt his energies elsewhere because he's unsatisfied with that portion that psychologically and physically makes him a man. A very...scary...man.

I realised I said LONG afterwards and was like...someone's gonna pick up on that. It does make an interesting thought process though doesn't it? If all I said were true then many a fan girl's hearts would be broken. I mean, I think girls could tolerate if he was gay (which I doubt to the enth degree) because theres a lot of yaoi girls out there.... but to know..that Richard's genes will never set forth and ignite a bloodbath that will drown the earth in it's wake, I think some might commit suicide. O_O...but if his heart is beating then that means he can't be entirely evil (He's a Pony lover... that could be a hint) could sire an off spring or MAYBE he already did. He mentioned when he killed his father, maybe he already had a child and that child killed him and it's just some form of right of passage for the family.
Another possible glimpse into Richard's tormented mental acception of his name being shortened besides the genitilia envy complex. Could be maybe deep down, he's just comphensating because he's a miserable sack of bones that was long forgotten and when he came back to life no one cared, no one wanted anything to do with him so he finally decided $&&^^&$% it, I'll do what I want! And then became the Richard we know today.
Richard is also a noble name, Dick is the name of a used car salesman, neither of which truely befits a man of his stature and short comings (Okay that one was delibrate) so....maybe he was really named Dick at first and lengthened it to Richard's because he had the crappy used car salesman (or horse sales man) name. I mean I can totally see kids coming over and teasing him about his dad being the mail man or some garbage and sending him off on his homicidal rampage across the earth.
