Lar/Sohmer -
Before I say anything else, I want to say that your work (here and on LICD) is excellent. Gill and Darren's mapwork looks amazing, as well.

But don't you think that planning a few dozen more landmasses is a little too ambitious? I mean, I'm sure you've got your ideas working and you clearly know more about what's going on in your head than I do.

But it seems to me that we're going to fly by some of the areas you're going to spend a lot of time working on - if there's a whole lot going on in a whole lot of areas, the place that they're happening in is going to seem trivial, you know?

I think that'd be too bad, because you've got some interesting (and entertaining) things going on so far - and it seems like there's a lot more fun to come.

But that's just the way things look to me - what does everyone else think?

I'm sure it was said that more land masses would be added later on.

That's sort of the point - it's a quality/quantity argument. If we end up looking at a few dozen land masses (presumably with several key locations on each mass), are you going to remember that The Shriek was encountered in the Ruins of Gamlon, or is Gamlon just going to be "lovingly drawn fantasy locale X"?

I know we're dealing with a parody here - and the dozens of landmasses might just be the point...I can see a joke coming out of cookie cutter locations. But I don't really see Lar/Sohmer setting up that device (yet).

Try thinking of the question like this:

Would you rather see Richard and crew go through a quick tour of dozens of different locations, or spend a great deal of time exploring a detailed history of specific places?

I am figuring a story arc and a half on each place, but with other places that they don't go to adds the option of side stories.

I'm of the "I'm happy with what I get and pleased to muse upon everything else" camp. I got no problem with several (and I doubt we're dealing with dozens of) other land masses to touch upon.

World design in its infancy is a wonderful thing. I'm sure that Sohmer will weigh in at some point, but for my own two quid/cents I would say that rather than just a webcomic, look at LFG as a world that will offer far more than just the comic. Having spoken to Sohmer, he's a lot like me. I took my passion for world design and writing into game development and roleplaying game development. I've worked on a few PC games and a fair few indy RPG supplements for various companies, big and small. So it's a pleasure to focus my talents onto helping shape Sohmer's physical world vision.

There's a lot of good coming, but like Rome, we're going to have to wait longer for it.

Sohmer has mentioned the Codex he's working on and if he's anything like me, when I designed my own world I added tonnes of detail to it over time. There are places that players would probably never see or even visit, but they exist in text form, the ideas preserved so that if by chance one time...someone got there, it wouldn't be a scramble to fill in the gaps. So I can imagine LFG's world is going to follow that line of thought. If in the future Sohmer wants to add a story arc in a new location, it'll be there ready for him, populated with bizzare wonders and crumbling ruins because he's taken the time to fill in those gaps.

Whatever happens, it'll be a wild ride :>

I cant wait till we see some of the more exiting places on the map in the comic. I want to see Richards villige.
