Haha, it's like the Terry Goodkind books. Now we know where they got the name Richard....
Felixaar
Feb 5 2007, 08:56 AM
Well, Richard is a pretty common name, but thats a good point. I wonder if Zedd or Kahlan will show up. Man that'd be cool, imagine totally evil zombie versions of them?
Matev
Feb 5 2007, 08:57 AM
Not necessarily. Besides if anything, Terry Goodkind stole Richard's copyrighted name from the warlock himself.

Goodkind?
Nope. Try Walt Disney, Sleeping Beauty. Prince Eric killed a dragon with the Sword of Truth, with some help from fairies:
"Now, Sword of Truth, fly swift and sure. That evil die and good endure!"
You get to know these things when you have kids.

The Sword of Truth Series
Wizard's First Rule (1994)
Stone of Tears (1995)
Blood of the Fold (1996)
Temple of the Winds (1997)
Soul of the Fire (1999)
Faith of the Fallen (2000)
The Pillars of Creation (2002)
Naked Empire (2003)
Chainfire (2005)
Phantom (2006)
I have not read the last two yet. But yes, they are still being published. A good read, if you don't mind the characters doing stupid things they should knwo better than to do. semi-predictable at times.
But as to the "harnasses your anger" That's what th Sword of Truth does in this series. It harnesses and uses the wielders rightful anger

It's definately a good series, I found it in the library in high school and it quickly jumped to one of my favorites. It's nearing the end, however, I believe the book coming out this year is either the last or next to last one =(.
Faith of the Fallen was definately my favorite =)

Heh, I registered just to comment on the comic and the Sword of Truth thing. I'm rereading it, and I don't find anything with the characters. I think Goodkind went a little too far in making them seem vulnerable though.
But yeah, Richard gets angry in the books when he lets the sword take over, so I'm thinking that's what the reference is towards in this comic.

Goodkind is such an awesome author, but this leads to another potential.
Any guesses on what next reference shall come forth from the mighty Lars and Sohmer? Ideas upon how far down the fantasy rabbit hole they will go?
So many levels of awesome the mind boggles.

Careful, next thing you'll know Fwoom will be back saying "No time to say hello, goodbye I'm late I'm late I'm late." I mean...... Cale DID fall into a hole....... of sorts. Now they're walking underground, don't think it couldn't happen!
But based on a person who isn't familiar with the books, the whole fork shpeel had me giggling. Ah poor Richard, and mocking all in an attempt to garner attention and feel loved. Mother held him to much, or not enough. Moments of levity likely actually give him pain, causes headaches or something.

i cant help it skip over, stop reading. iam gonna say what the fate of the whole world of the Sword of Truth serries is comming down to.

I wanna start reading some Fritz Lieber, starring Fafhrd and The Grey Mouser, though I'm not exactly sure which book to start with...
Though, LFG screams Discworld to me, or maybe that's because it's such a great fantasy spoof. >>
But I think The Sword Of Truth *insert shining glory and gregorian "ahhh"ing here* is a good, generic fantasy name for a magical sword, if y'ask me.

as many others have said, this is a wonderful series. I put it up there with "The Wheel of Time" series by Robert Jordan, but I must say that "WoT" has slowly been degrading as the series has progressed, yet "SoT" has stayed strong, and even improved throughout the years.
and in reply to Oskars comment, they definatly are worth reading, every last one of them.

You can't copywrite a name to begin with. I didn't even think on the fact that the warlock was named Richard, seeing as hwo it is a common name. But when they mentioned "The Sword of Truth" and it's ability to make you angry, I kinda guessed this was pulled from Goodkind's work.

I had to register after seeing the SoT comic
I've been enjoying this. It's on par with LICD.
One thing, though: don't call the Sword of Truth fantasy. Goodkind actually gets kind of upset if you do. He normally likes to start his public speeches by saying that he isn't essentially a fantasy author. During a chat session, Goodkind once said, "My books were defined in the marketplace as fantasy purely because of business considerations, not essential characteristics." He seemed rather unhappy about the decision. He's pretty adamant that he writes philosophy, and he has said even the smallest things, like the way Richard walks, show how Richard uses reason as a guiding force of his life.

While a fan of the series I have to say I got burned out on any series that goes past 6 books thanks to Robert Jordan. To be hones when I first saw the reference to The Sword of Truth I actually thought back to one of my favorite books/series, The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks. In that the sword was literally a sword of truth. It acted as a normal sword in all respects, except that it revealed the truth of things. Now if you gave a sword like that to Richard Cypher the truth would be revealed that he's a horses ass and he does everything the hard way.
Actually the best series I ever read was by Glen Cook called the Garrett Files for the fantasy/humor/sex/hard-boiled detective style.

I love the Shannara series, those books are all pretty much awesome. But I have some of the sword of truth books up in my room, I just haven't gotten around to reading them yet.
For an awesome series though, read song of fire and ice by George RR Martin. Awesome stuff, along with just about everything else of his that I have read.
