So... today I was doing my thang, rocking out at the top of the stairs, when it was announced that it was time for m me to leave. With my backpack firmly on my shoulders and my music blaring, I took a graceful, lithe step down the staircase... and fell.
10 seconds and 30 bruises later, I arrived at the bottom. My tailbone bruised, my arm twisted, my knees thoroughly whacked, and my thumb.
Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh.
I'm not sure what happened, but I think at some point it had to bear the full weight of my body. It hurt like a b!tch on cocaine, now it just hurts like a b!tch in a halfway house.
So.... sprained/broken metacarpals. Any experience with them? advice on what to do? how to tell one from the other?
I think it's just sprained, as I still have motion (allthough its very, very limited), and I've iced it down.
anti-whee.

how swollen is it/ If it's extremely swollen even after ice, it's broken. However, if you are unsure, go to the doctor, get X-rays done. nothing worse than having more than just your thumb broken. You could have cracked any number of bones in the hand and jut no realize it.
Good luck.

rub it with peanut butter, wont do much but I just like peanut butter, or you could go on some medical forum and start yammerin until they give you magical powers
btw, get well soon, thumbs are the most important part of the hand, they make the hand face possible

Hmm. I consulted my father (didn't expect him to be home today), and he says it's just sprained, at that no medical treatment is required. He's pretty freaking knowledgable about that kind of thing, long stories.
I'm still going to try to go to the local clinic though, solely because they give out painkillers like candy.
Also: I won't be used as a tool for your peanut butter fetishes. Not ever again.
