I've now seen two or three posters on the boards claim that Captain Tah'Vraay can cast fire spells. Sorry, that's simply not true. It's Richard's burning fists that you see.
Look again closely, please:

I admit when I first saw panel 8, for a brief moment I too thought, 'Is she casting a spell, conjuring up a flame in her palm?'
But upon closer examination it should be obvious that we see Richard with TWO flaming fists standing there in the background, and unfortunately his right hand is juxtaposed in the picture with Tah'Vraay's raised hand in the foreground in such a manner that upon first glance it looks as if the flame is much smaller and is coming from her fingertips. Come on, you can clearly see Richard's fists being sheathed in fire... why would he light up only his left fist?

Instead, Tah'Vraay is holding up her hand, palm up, and rubbing her fingers together in the age-old traditional gesture for bling-bling... she wants bribe money! She even says it: "Usually travelers offer to pay a small gratuity, to ensure my men don't slit their throats during the night."

They were only speculations by overimaginative, demented forum goers. We're all rather demented around here.

... i dunno, this never confused me. richard was just showing her: hey, your sailors attack us, they're dead.

Which we do see in the next panel. I never understood why people thought she could cast fire spells. That's what Richard's FWOOM always looks like before being shot at some unsuspecting victim.
