in the latest comic, the one where gid is glaring at the pirate captain, the one with the flaming cats, (page 47) did anyone else think that the glare said some thing more like "hey sexy, my cabins over there." than "i'll slit your throat in your sleep"? plus, the cats loved each other. an analogy for gid and the captain?

Based on the way Richard and Cale described the situation, I think the look was non-lesbian; more like a girl-rivalry hate-your-guts kindof smile. The cats falling in love thing was most likely put in for comedic effect and not symbolism.

And seriously, do you think the authors would start a gratuitous love relationship (be it homo or hetro) when you have a good plot running along? It would totally ruin the story.

Yes, I also thought it was one of those female rivalry "I'll pretend to be nice and sweet and civil until I get you alone in a dark nook on the ship in the middle of the night where I can stab you clean through the chest" kind of thing. You see it in high schools all the time these days. The kittens falling in love was just adorable (and rather funny). If you happen to see one attempting to throttle the life out of the other, don't be surprised. Ya shoulda seen it comin'.

Yeah, I think the kittens playing nice was just a way to give Richard an excuse to torch something. Don't you love the irritated look on his face when the cats don't fight?

Actually, it looks to me like Benny's smiling a bit flirtatiously...but Cap'n One-eye isn't. And I think Richard just can't imagine two women getting along; thus, the cat analogy that kinda petered out on him. Might have worked with older cats, but kitties just tend to cuddle and purr.

Of course, we could all be waaaay off base, and it could be something totally different. Can't wait to find out, personally.

Perhaps they're planning to hijack them all to be given as gifts to a tribe of Amazons.

Nothing I've seen leads me to make an opinion on the sexual orintations of any of the characters in this comic. Then again, I might have missed something.

The only character Benny has shown a (non-familial) attraction to is Richard. And that may be that she's merely amused by him rather than attracted to him. (I personally think otherwise, but I shouldn't let my opinions cloud the facts, especially with so little information to go on!)

To me Benny has a smug smile on her face, the kind of like the cat that eat the canary type look. most likey due to the captains crew has been 'checking her out more' then their captain, which explains the 'annoyed' look of the captain.

Alright, you've finally convinced me to sign up for this bloody forum. I've resisted the urge to make comments for so long now...and here's my first.
Benny is NOT smiling.
Not grinning.
Not happy.
That 'line' pointing up is her tusk. That one pointing down is her lip-line. To me, it looks like she's scoffing, and about ready to throw something at the captain. Maybe lunge for her throat. Oh, and her eyes are there, just squinted into small, spiteful slits. (Alliteration ftw)

And about her skirt--whoo! Go Benny. I like it. Looks like something good for dancing in. (Yes, I'm one of those who think she is a troll, and since the ones I'm most associated with (that look like her...you know, the WoW ones >.>) tend to dance all the time...*nodnod* Yeah. Plus, they belly dance, so it's just that much better of an outfit for it! It even looks like she has the cute little belly they tend to get.)

uh.... benny doesnt have tusks... she has one overgrown tooth, but she is smiling in that panel... and you cant see her eyes, one is covered by her haired, and the other is shaded by her hair enough to make it not visible enough for distinguishable emotion.

Mmkay, so it's just one tusk. You're right, I don't remember seeing more than one at a time. Except for that time on page 9 (not sure of any others that might be floating around), but that could just be emphasizing her irritation. Anyway.

If you look at just about any page with her mouth closed, you can see her one tusk sticking out. If you look at the page in question, her tooth is sticking out...and her mouth curves down at the end. I wouldn't define that as a smile, myself.

Yes, one eye is covered. I can see the other one...at least, I can see a tiny, lightly-colored slit that I would assume is an eye, and not a poor coloring job. Squinting at it, I can see what looks like the spot of her iris/pupil in the right corner, looking at our dear captain. (Was also using the built-in magnifier thing on my mouse.)

Plus, we can't ignore the fact that Cale said: "They've been glaring at each other for the past ten days."

Smiling =/= glaring

yes but it could be a im going to kill you and dine on your heart smile. it looks like a frown because you're sort of seeing her profile, so the curving up part is very small

i dont think the eye is really clear enough to show emotion.

as for cale, he LIES. hes an elf, theyre evil. ergo hes evil. we all know hes just a spy sent to get the angry sword to kill every non-elf.

Just a quick point, it's not a tusk or a tooth, its the wrinkle of her cheek caused by her evil grin.

*points to the left side of her mouth* It points down. The pointy-uppy part is a tooth. The other side...*points to the right* Is a foreshortening of the other half of her mouth, and does not indicate direction of her expression in any shape or form. You don't see all of her mouth--the part that would be the pointy-downy part of it is hidden behind the pointy-uppy part, since it curves around her face. See how the far side (on the left) of the captain's mouth points up, too? (Sorry if that ended up excessively confusing. ^.^')

Nah, it's not really clear enough for that...partially because it is just slitted...but it's still not a positive expression. One way or the other, she's not happy with the captain. At least we can agree on that part.

...lol, nice. That might be funny to see...but he's too naive to be a spy. Or, he's a really, really good actor, and has been practicing from page one. But I don't think he's that deep.

as had been said before, theyre smiling in an "i hate you i want to slit your throat(i might have paraphrased a bit)" look. not like theyre glaring and then smiling happy, theyre glaring and smiling i kill you

I think it's self-explanatory...two mouths, what it'd look like from the front and 3/4 views...note that the tiny line on the second one would look pretty much exactly the same if the mouth was not smiling.

Now that I've seen the larger picture I agree with you.

Gratuitous love relationships especially those built on lust tend to ruin the story. If Benny were to be all hot over Tah'Vraay it would be for one of the following reasons:

-Fanservice. Generally, although stereotypical, nothing is more pleasing to the male mind than girl-on-girl action. This would be bad as it not only takes away from the plot but also the characters.

-Gay activism. Regardless of what anyone thinks on this issue, do we really want LFG's opinions on the matter or any other social issues? That would completely change the focus on the comic. For the worse in my opinion.

-Gratuitous Romance. I never really went for romance and quite frankly I don't care if "character x likes y and z is jealous while w wants to get into somebody's pants". Stick with the plot line, leave that stuff out (and could you imagine all the fan-created "shipping"? Disturbing.)

If the love relationship was not gratuitous and fit in with the plot, then that would be "OK", but I'd rather not see it in LFG.

Oh, that'll happen anyway. *sigh* One of the curses of creating something people like is knowing that other people are doing horribly sexual things to your beloved adventure characters. Ugh.

Hasn't this conversation already been done? Richard isn't the type to need, or ever fall for, anyone of any gender. He's just--above the need, I suppose you could say. Give him an orphanage (or other similarly helpless group of people) and he'll be perfectly happy. Until they're gone, of course. Then, he'll just move on to his next victims...

And don't try telling me it can't be true because "people like that don't exist." I have a friend (who happens to be awesome, and a tad bit evil--he loves to creep out the rest of our little group >3 ) who just...I don't know, it's odd. He seems to be asexual, or soemthing very close to it. o.o But definitely full of personality, similar to Richard. Has an excellent evil laugh, too.
