Apologies from Lar

I swear I am not making this a habit! It's been another bear of a week, and even though it's all been positive, there's been a lot of time burned up driving this weekend as well as other deadlines that needed putting out. Life should be resuming normality starting tomorrow (assuming I'm not coming down with the bug that feels like it's moving into my chest).

Current ETA for LFG is between 2am and 3am ET.

I'm Ustreaming my progress (but not really talking) to apologize once more. I've got some tunes lined up to play as well but don't expect great things. I have very questionable taste in music.

Later

Live Streaming by Ustream.TV

4th Wall Grand Opening

Forgive me for my radio silence over the last week, but my workload has been rather impressive by its sheer abundance and ability to consume my soul. A couple more weeks like this and I may just have unburied myself from the massive To Do List that amassed over the summer.

It should be noted that the aforementioned To Do List has achieved sentience and engages me in conversation. Unsurprisingly, it’s rather verbally abusive.

The item I wanted to mention today was the upcoming grand opening of the 4th Wall, here in Montreal. The 4th is the our comic shop, one that we’ve put our hearts into over the last couple of months and are finally ready to show it off in full.

The Grand Opening is taking place this Saturday (November 14th) from 11am to 6pm. In addition to being able to walk around the store, Lar and I will also be on hand to chat, sign or dance for you (as the monkeys that we are). Other festivities include raffles, special discounts and an assortment of fun.

For more information, or to RSVP to the event, please head on over to the Facebook page.

Looking forward to seeing you out there.

- Because I can.

Cross Post: LICD Book 6

I don't do this often, but I believe this constitutes as a valid reason for a cross post from LICD.com:

As promised, Least I Could Do Volume 6: I Am Not A Credible Source is now available for pre-sale.

Just to recap, for those who haven’t been paying attention, Lar and I will be signing ONLY the first 1,000 books sold. Therefore, should you want your copy signed, I would advise picking the book up right about now-ish.

As is the usual, the book contains all the strips from our 6th year, along with commentary anecdotes and various nonsense thrown in there by Lar and myself. Our goal with these books has always been to make it entertaining for you, even though you’ve read the strips before.

The Books themselves will be shipping out on December 10th, arriving at your doors just before Christmas.

It should be noted that we’re also selling all 6 LICD books in a bundle for a reduced price. All books in the bundle will be signed.

We’d like to thank each and every one of you who orders the books, as they are a huge part of how we’re able to keep making comics for you, day after day, year after year. Thanks for the support, folks.

- Because I can.

Think think think....

Art is always about communicating ideas. As a cartoonist, my primary choice of communication are the pictures I draw. As an illustrator, I love to take ideas from others and run with them and hopefully take them places the writer never dreamed of. I think that's one reason why I find blogging to be such an effort - it's a words medium. If I had time, I think I'd be better off drawing a comic strip to get these thoughts across, but then... that's a big 'if' and I'd rather spend my time doing other things with it.

One of those things is my Ustream. Tonight I get to slip back into my regular time slot of 8pm ET and I hope you'll be around to join me because I'm hoping for your feedback. I love being able to connect with everyone and thank you for being readers. Being the kind of personality I am, I'm also always looking for ways to improve the broadcast so it remains as fun and entertaining as possible as well. A couple of the ideas I've had I'll be running past people tonight and holding out for discussion. Things like devoting a 'regular' segment of time to doing celebrity caricature and creating wallpapers for LICD and LFG.

The other idea I would love input on is next week's broadcast. Why next week? Well because it's the night before Hallowe'en!! Now, I know a lot of you probably already have plans for a Friday night but bear with me. I think it's a great time to have a *theme* night on Ustream and I'm going to ask for suggestions on what I should be drawing. Should it be a 'how to'? Zombies? Monsters? Vampires? A Hallowe'en pin up of a ghoulish gal? Caricatures of Hallowe'en personalities? A couple different projects or one big one? Should I just keep my mouth shut and draw?

The best ways to let me know your thoughts are right here in this thread, messaging me on twitter (@lartist) or by joining the chatroom tonight during my Ustream. I hope to see you there

http://www.ustream.tv/channel/lartist-at-work - starting at 8pm and running till midnight.

Later!

Live Streaming by Ustream.TV

The 4th Wall, In Montreal

As you should already be aware, I am the proud owner of a new comic book shop located in Montreal, called The 4th Wall (The original name for the shop was ‘Lar’s Genatelia & Assorted Lar’s Genatelia Merchandise’, but I got outvoted).

Myself, along with the rest of the Blind Ferret Crew, especially Becker, Phil and Moss have been working the last month non-stop to get things together.

While the grand opening event is happening in early November, we’re nonetheless opening our doors beginning next week, in a soft launch sort of way (ie, as we figure out exactly how retail works). That said, I plan on being in the store from 10am-3pm tomorrow (Saturday, Oct 17th), and would welcome the occasional shopper or if you just felt like stopping by.

The 4th Wall is at 940 St Jean in Pointe Claire, Unit 18, and the postal code is H9R 5N8.
Catching up on Reading

It’s fairly obvious that I’ve fallen a bit behind on my book/graphic novel reviews over the summer due to our travelling schedule, and it’s one of the things I plan on catching up with now that we’re well into September.

That said, what have I been reading?

The Change Series, by S.M. Stirling

Beginning with Dies the Fire, this story takes place in ’99 centered around individuals in the Willamette valley as a white flash is felt through the entire world, thus eliminating all technology. Not only that, but hard science itself is changed, with basic concepts no longer functioning as it once did.

The result of this unexplained phenomenon, is America plunged into the dark ages. What happens? Who survives? Who comes out on top?

I’m currently reading the second trilogy that picks up 20 years after the change, and I can say without a doubt that this series has me hooked. Highly recommended.

Farscape: Graphic Novels

Ready for a bold statement?

From where I’m sitting, to date, Farscape ranks as the best science fiction series to ever grace the small screen. I’m not saying it didn’t have its flaws, but the characters, the writing, the universe, the science, the actors, all of it, was simply incredible.

Though it ended far too early in my opinion, I’ve re-watched the series in its entirety several times since it left the air, and my appreciation has only increased.

So it goes without saying, that when Boom! Studios announced they were doing comic books and graphic novels that picked up where the series left off, I was first in line to pick them up. Thus far, I’m rather pleased with where things are going.

I’ll do a more in depth review once a little more time has gone by, but for now, if you’re a Farscape or a Science fiction fan, pick a book up.

More from me in a bit!

- Because I Can.
